Flexible Capture Device for Space Debris Removal

Basic study for assessing the capability of the B2000++ implicit non-linear transient solver for solving efficiently the specific dynamic problem of the collision of two bodies, where one body is highly deformable and elastic (a net) and the other body is rigid. Th problem involves large deformations and contact.

The simulation presented here pushes an initially rectangular net against a solid body. The net is equipped with four weights at the corners. Zero gravity and vacuum (no aerodynamic resistance) are assumed.

The problem is solved with the B2000++ implicit non-linear transient solver with error control and variable time stepping. The video has been created with SMR's baspl++ visualization package.
